Fire crews responding to 200-acre wildfire near Rest Haven in Selah

SELAH, Wash. – Fire crews are currently responding to a brush fire on the east side of the ridge near Rest Haven above the Selah-Yakima Gap.

The fire is over 200 acres in size, according to Lieutenant Jason Wood from Selah Fire. Crews have reportedly stopped forward progression of the fire as of 3:30 p.m.

Selah Fire, Naches Fire, Gleed Fire, East Valley Fire, Yakima Fire, the Yakima Training Center and two helicopters from the Department of Natural Resources are responding. The Yakima Training Center also provided a helicopter, according to Wood.

No evacuations are in place and no structures are being threatened, according to Director of Yakima County Emergency Management Tony Miller. No roads are closed at this time but residents are asked to avoid the area.

While the fire is visible from I-82, Suncomm Communications Yakima is asking people to not call 911 to report it, unless any new threats to people or property are seen.
