Fire crews contain 200-acre wildfire near Rest Haven in Selah

SELAH, Wash. – Fire crews contained a brush fire on the east side of the ridge near Rest Haven above the Selah-Yakima Gap on Fri., June 7.

The fire reached over 200 acres in size, according to Lieutenant Jason Wood from Selah Fire. Crews reportedly stopped forward progression of the fire as of 3:30 p.m.

Selah Fire, Naches Fire, Gleed Fire, East Valley Fire, Yakima Fire, the Yakima Training Center and two helicopters from the Department of Natural Resources responded. The Yakima Training Center also provided a helicopter, according to Wood.

No evacuations were put in place and no structures were threatened, according to Director of Yakima County Emergency Management Tony Miller. No roads were closed but residents were asked to avoid the area.

While the fire is visible from I-82, Suncomm Communications Yakima is asking people to not call 911 to report it, unless any new threats to people or property are seen.
