Fire crews cleared scene after Kennewick residents left stove on

KENNEWICK, Wash. -UPDATE 7:41 p.m.:

Fire crews have cleared the scene and nobody was hurt.

Jenna Roberts, BCFD #1 public information officer, said the property owner left the stove on and smelled the additive that gives a certain odor when mixed with natural gas.

The residents opened windows and doors until the fire department showed up, which provided enough oxygen to reduce the gas, Roberts said. Firefighters used a gas detection meter when walking through the home and found there was no concern.

Roberts said the best course of action for gas leaks is to get out of the residence, contact the gas company and call 911.
