ROSLYN, Wash. – Fire crews in Roslyn have begun home assessments of all properties in Roslyn by evaluating each property’s ability to survive a fire.
The assessments are funded by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources’ Wildfire Ready Program. Residents will see fire crews walking through Roslyn assessing each home over the next several weeks.
The Roslyn Fire Department says over 80 of homes that are lost in wildfires are because of embers landing on combustible materials on or near the home.
Roslyn Fire notes that embers can travel over two miles from strong wildfires and recommends keeping lawns mowed, gutters free of debris and vegetation well managed.
