It’s been some time since Euphoria aired its second season, but fans will have to wait a little longer to join Rue (Zendaya) and crew back at HBO as Season 3’s arrival looms in the somewhat distant future.
As we await the third chapter of Sam Levinson‘s teen drama, we’re breaking down everything we know so far below.
When Will Euphoria Season 3 Film?
According to star Sydney Sweeney, filming for the season is happening soon as she shared during an MTV interview posted on March 12th that she’ll go directly into work on Euphoria after wrapping promotion on her new horror film Immaculate. “It’s like home when I go back to it,” Sweeney said of going back to work on the HBO hit. Further details on filming remain unclear at this time, but the update gives hope that the show will be back in motion sooner than later.
In a more recent interview with GQ UK in March 2024, Sweeney gave a more defined picture of the show’s return to filming schedule with production reportedly set to start in about two months. She also revealed that “people will be really amazed with what season three becomes,” and that the latest chapter marks another change for the series. “I think that’s good because seasons one and two were so different,” she said.
Plans for the show’s filming have since been delayed according to the latest reports. Scripts are being reworked and the cast have been permitted to take on other jobs in the meantime. Meaning, that filming isn’t slated anytime soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reason for script rewrites is because showrunner Sam Levinson has decided to take the characters out of high school and into the next chapter of their lives with a time jump.
When Will Euphoria Season 3 Premiere?
There’s no official premiere date for Euphoria‘s third season yet, but according to HBO & Max’s Chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, the show won’t be back onscreen until at least 2025. Initially, the show was anticipated to arrive in 2024, but the production’s original timeline has been shifted due to strike-related delays. And now with script rewrites, 2025 isn’t guaranteed.
While dates remain unclear, Bloys told Variety in June 2024 that Levinson is “working on” on Season 3’s scripts. “There’s been a lot of back and forth … One of the issues I think that Sam is thinking about is that he doesn’t want to have it in high school anymore. That’s where it was set and what made sense then. So when you take it out of that, there’s a lot of back and forth about where to set it and how far in the future to set it and all that stuff. But I think he’s got a take that he’s excited about, and he’s busy writing.”

Will Season 3 Be Euphoria‘s Last?
In an interview with Variety in January 2024, Bloys said, “Obviously, the cast have all become stars, which you love to see — and Zendaya is obviously a big movie star… So, there is a practical reality to that.” But, according to Bloys, it really depends upon Levinson, who is at the helm as the show’s creator, writer, and director. “He’s in the thick of writing Season 3 right now, and we’ll leave it up to him and have those conversations about what he wants to do,” he added.
Who Will Return for Euphoria Season 3?
No official casting news has been announced at this time, but Bloys confirmed in June 2024 via Variety, “It’s the same core cast,” when questioned about whether Zendaya would return as Rue alongside Hunter Schafer‘s Jules, Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie, and Jacob Elordi‘s Nate. It’s unclear if other stars are among the core Bloys refers to, but we’d like to see the return of Maude Apatow as Lexi, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Austin Abrams as Ethan, and Storm Reid as Gia among others.
Former star Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat, announced she wouldn’t return for Season 3 in August of 2022, and Angus Cloud, who played loveable drug dealer Fezco, died in 2023, confirming his absence from the season.

What Will Season 3 of Euphoria Be About?
It’s unclear what the storyline will be for Euphoria’s third season, but considering it’s been more than two years since Season 2 debuted, the aforementioned time jump feels like a necessary story device to explain the actors’ aging in real-time. Additionally, the show will likely have to explain Cloud’s absence as viewers last saw him being detained as his baby brother figure Ashtray (Javon “Wanna” Walton) was seemingly shot by authorities. Only time will tell which direction the team behind this series chooses to take.
