OLYMPIA, Wash.-The Washington State Department of Commerce announced almost $40 million in grants to support the electrification of homes and businesses across the state, including Ellensburg and Yakima County.

The $39,575,225 in Climate Commitment Act funding will be awarded in grants to cities, counties, municipal utilities, and state and federally recognized tribes throughout Washington.

“Investing these Climate Commitment Act funds gives communities more opportunities to start or increase incentive programs that will help reduce use of fossil fuels and create healthier, more resilient and energy efficient homes and buildings through electrification,” said Commerce Director Mike Fong.

The grants will be used for local programs that provide rebates and incentives to households and small businesses to purchase and install high efficiency electric equipment, according to the Department of Commerce.
