ELLENSBURG, Wash. – UPDATE Feb. 14
The Ellensburg School District Board of Directors selected Troy Tornow as the district’s new superintendent, according to a press release.
Tornow is ESD’s current interim superintendent. He has held the position since June 2023.
Tornow started his career as a social studies teacher and a basketball coach, going on to serve as a dean of students, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent.
He previously worked as the assistant superintendent of the Selah School District and the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services at Educational Service District 123 in Pasco.
Tornow will serve as the interim superintendent until he is sworn in on July 1.
“We want to thank all of the parents, staff and community members who took the time to help us with this difficult decision,” said Board President Mike Rowley. “Northwest Leadership Associates provided us with top-notch candidates. While the decision was not easy, we had great feedback and are confident that Troy Tornow is the strong choice for our schools and our community.”

According to a press release from the Ellensburg School District, the Board of Directors has chosen three finalists for the position of superintendent.
Each finalist will have the opportunity to visit schools and meet with school administrators, teachers, union representatives, students and staff members.
The community is invited to meet each candidate for a 45-minute interview which will be available via zoom or in person over three separate days.
Each interview will start at 5 p.m. and will be located in the Ida Nason Aronica Elementary gym.

Once all interviews are complete, the Ellensburg School District Board of Directors will initiate an executive session. The board plans to announce the new superintendent at the end of the meeting.
