OLYMPIA, Wash.-Twenty-five high-priority projects will receive up to $53.5 million from grants the Department of Ecology received from the Washington State Legislature.

The grants, funded through a streamflow restoration law passed in 2018, give stability to projects increasing water storage capacity and improving fish habitats, according to an Ecology news release. Improvement with water management and infrastructure, and gaining water rights, will be funded through these grants as well.

This year will have the largest round of grants funded through the 2018 law; agencies eligible to apply include tribal governments, nonprofit organizations and other state and local companies, the news release said.

Some organizations and projects have already been selected to receive funding through the grants this year, including the Methow Salmon Recovery Foundation, who received just over $1 million to help restore streamflow following wildfires in Okanogan and Methow watersheds.

More projects funded by Ecology can be found on the department’s website.
