OLYMPIA, Wash.-Almost 10 million in Department of Commerce grants will help 28 organizations, including some in Eastern Washington, help communities affected by the war on drugs.
Commerce announced the $9.8 million in grants as part of its Washington State Community Reinvestment Project on May 7.
Grants will be funded by Washington’s Community Reinvestment Account and will allow organizations and institutions to provide financial coaching for communities disproportionally impacted by the design and enforcement of state criminal laws and penalties for drug possession, according to Commerce.
Programs serving Black, Latine, and tribal communities in seeking a stable financial future will be prioritized with the grants and programs will include homebuyer education, business coaching, construction loans, debt remediation, and more.

Rural Community Development Resources: Yakima, Benton, Franklin, Adams, Klickitat, Grant, Kittitas, Walla Walla, Douglas, Chelan and Okanogan.Tribal Technology Training: Statewide.WOW Tri-Cities: Benton, Franklin, Pierce, Spokane, Walla Walla and Yakima Counties.
