East Valley High School alumnus announced as District’s new athletic director

YAKIMA, Wash. – A former East Valley School District student athlete is returning to the District as its new athletic director.

Zach Janis, an East Valley High School graduate, was announced as the new director on Monday.

Janis went to the University of Montana Western under an athletic scholarship to play football following his graduation from East Valley. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education K-12.

Janis then taught physical education and health at the Yakama Nation Tribal School then spent four years as the school’s athletic director, followed by two years as both the athletic director and dean of students.

Janis later completed his Master’s in Sports and Athletic Administration from Central Washington University before coming back to East Valley.

“It has always been a dream of mine to serve in this role, particularly in a community that shaped me both as an athlete and an individual,” said Janis. “As an alumnus of East Valley High School, I bring a deep understanding of its values, traditions, and community spirit. Serving as the East Valley School District Athletic Director, I aim to continue the strong traditions of the East Valley School District and give student athletes the tools to be successful in life after athletics.”
