YAKIMA, Wash.-East Selah residents are eligible to have their livestock tested for PFAS for free.
The Washington State Department of Health is providing the testing, which includes limited free PFAS testing of meat and eggs from cattle, swine, or poultry, as well as blood testing from cattle or swine.
Those who meet the requirements and are interested in having their livestock tested should call or email Barbara Morrissey at the Washington State Department of Health: (564) 999-3485 or Barbara.morrissey@doh.wa.gov.
To qualify for the testing individuals must live in East Selah, must use their water to raise animals at home for personal, family or friend consumption and have PFAS in their water higher than at least one of the following values:
PFOS: 15 ppt.PFOA: 10 ppt.PFHxS: 65 ppt.
After testing is completed the DOH will provide homeowners with the results and give an individual consultation, that will include advice and safety tips for eating meat or poultry that has potentially been exposed to PFAS, according to a DOH press release.
The deadline to sign up for the free livestock testing is Dec. 4.
