FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. – A 61-year-old man died last week after temperatures hit just over 110 degrees in his mobile home east of Pasco.
Franklin County Coroner Curtis McGary confirmed on Wed., July 15 that Avelino Vazquez-Navarro died of hyperthermia with alcohol intoxication as a contributing factor.
McGary said temperatures in the mobile home on Green Road ranged between 100 to 113 degrees when Vazquez-Navarro’s friends found his body at 10:30 a.m. on Sat., July 13. They had not seen him since Wednesday.
National Weather Service data shows temperatures in the Tri-Cities have been above average since July 4, with July 9 being the hottest day this month at 109 degrees. Average highs for the area at this time of year are about 93 degrees.
The Yakima County Coroner said they have not seen any heat-caused deaths in the county where temperatures hit a high of 106 last week, but they did see several natural caused deaths where heat could have played a factor.
