RICHLAND, Wash. – A driver who was allegedly speeding on SR 240 crashed Thursday afternoon, temporarily blocking traffic in Richland for an investigation.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Sarah Clasen says at around 3:45 p.m., a driver was reportedly speeding on westbound SR 240 and hit guardrail.

After hitting the rail, the car crossed an embankment and hit a train track causing it to bend. The driver flipped their car in the process and landed on its wheels on the other side of the embankment.

The driver was injured and brought to a nearby hospital. Drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, per Clasen.

Clasen says the rails will need to be replaced.
