ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Ellensburg Police Department arrested a 42-year-old Yakima man Wednesday night with assistance from a drone controlled by the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.
KCSO says the man was found violating a domestic violence protection order near Ellensburg’s western traffic roundabout. Officers later learned that he also had felony warrants for burglary, illegal firearm possession and theft of both firearms and a vehicle.
The man reportedly fled across University Way into an area with brushes and a pond.
EPD, KCSO and other agencies created a perimeter around the man. A drone from KCSO was used to find the man with infrared and low-light cameras.
The man was taken into custody after coming out of hiding. He was brought to the hospital due to cold exposure then booked into the Kittitas County Jail.
