A man accused of shooting at Pasco Police will enter pleas to multiple charges later this month.
Bail has been set at $500,000 for Jose Herrera, 37, in connection with the incident on January 20 in the 6000 block of Road 36.
According to court documents, Herrera was on foot when he was approached by the officer in a patrol car. The officer said Herrera struck the patrol car with gunfire before Herrera was eventually taken into custody.
Herrera admitted in police interviews that he knowingly fired two to three .45 caliber rounds at the officer because he felt harassed by law enforcement, court documents said.
The shooting followed a report by a nearby homeowner who claimed Herrera displayed a handgun and demanded keys to the many vehicles that were parked on the homeowner’s property, court documents said.
According to detectives, a shot was fired and evidence of a bullet strike was discovered in a nearby fence board. Court documents said Herrera admitted to the shooting but claimed he was shooting at a charging dog.
The alleged incident with the homeowner prompted the response by Pasco Police. According to a press release by the Franklin County Sheriff’s office on the night of the shooting, Pasco officers returned fire when Herrera shot at them and that no one was hit.
Herrera was booked into jail on charges of assault, attempted robbery and possession of a controlled substance for carrying a quantity of methamphetamine in his coat pocket, court documents said.
Herrera’s arraignment date in Franklin County Court is set for January 28.
