Deschutes and Columbia Center Boulevard improvement project completed in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash.-The City of Kennewick held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Deschutes & Columbia Center Boulevard Intersection Project on Aug. 15.

According to the city of Kennewick, the project will help traffic flow in the area and improve safety at the busy intersection.

The project, which began in the summer of 2023, was funded with the help of grants from the Benton Franklin Council of Governments, the Federal Highway Administration and the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board.

The intersection at Columbia Center Boulevard and Colorado Street has also been overlaid with asphalt and restriped and curbs, gutters, sidewalk and concrete traffic islands have also been installed, according to the city of Kennewick.

Key features of the project

Installation of a new traffic signal system for a right turn lane for westbound traffic turning northbound on Columbia Center Boulevard.A new roundabout was installed at the intersection of Colorado Street and Deschutes Avenue to improve traffic flow.

According to the City of Kennewick, future improvements at the intersection will include the widening of Columbia Center Boulevard north of Deschutes Avenue and adding a third lane for northbound and southbound traffic to Quinault Avenue.
