YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.-The in-custody death of an inmate at the Yakima County Jail is under investigation.
A Corrections Officer found Anthony Lucei unresponsive in his cell around 1:40 a.m. on March 12.
According to the Yakima County Department of Corrections, the Corrections Officer called medical staff and provided emergency medical assistance before paramedics and fire crews arrived.
Lucei was pronounced dead around 1:52 a.m. and his family has been notified of his death.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office was called to conduct the unexpected fatality investigation, according to the Department of Corrections. The Yakima Police Department is also working on the investigation.
Lucei was taken into custody on March 8 on suspicion of theft in the 3rd degree, according to a DOC press release on his death.
The Department of Corrections is also conducting an independent internal investigation into the in-custody death.
