Cougar sighting reported in Cowiche Canyon west of Yakima

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – A cougar was spotted in Cowiche Canyon on Wed., June 5, according to the Cowiche Canyon Conservancy.

The conservancy recommends avoiding the main Cowiche Canyon Trail and to report a cougar to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife by calling 360-902-2936 or 911.

According to the conservancy, if you feel threatened by a cougar, experts say throwing rocks at them can keep them away. However, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says to not bend down as it causes humans to look like four-legged prey animals.

A cougar was also spotted on May 14 in Selah near the Red Rooster Bar & Grill.
