Corps of Engineers welcomes new Walla Walla District Commander

WALLA WALLA, Wash.-The Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has a new commander.

Lt. Col. Kathryn (Katie) Werback assumed command from Lt. Col. ShaiLin Kingslack at a changing of command ceremony in Walla Walla on July 12, according to USACE.

A native of San Jose, Werback most recently served as deputy commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District in Portland, Oregon.

As commander of the Walla Walla district, Werback will oversee more than 800 engineers and professionals from various functional backgrounds.

According to the USACE, Werback is responsible for Civil Works, Interagency Programs and the Operations of USACE projects and activities for Eastern Washington, all of Idaho and portions of Oregon, Nevada, Wyoming and Utah.

Kingslack served as the district commander for the past two years and is now transferring to Joint Base Lewis-McChord to serve as the Corps Engineer for U.S. Army’s I Corps.
