YAKIMA, Wash. – UPDATED Aug. 28, 5:21 p.m. The Yakima Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a man found in the area of North 6th Avenue and East F Street on Mon., Aug. 26.
Officers say they arrived just after 7:25 p.m. to find a 37-year-old Yakima man suffering from gunshot wounds.
First responders performed life-saving measures on the man, however he later died from his injuries.
On Aug. 28, Yakima County Corner Jim Curtice identified the 37-year-old as Mario Giles, with his cause of death being a gunshot wound to the torso. His next of kin as been notified.
Although officials suspect the incident was gang-related, YPD’s Criminal Investigation Division will investigate the homicide.
Curtice says Yakima County has experienced a total of 13 homicides so far in 2024, seven of which happening within Yakima City Limits.
