WALLA WALLA COUNTY, Wash.-Following the recent spike in opioid overdoses the Walla Walla Fire Department, law enforcement and the community are looking to spread awareness about prevention and treatment options.
The best option to prevent overdoses is to make the resources to fight addiction available for those who need them, according to a WWFD social media post.
An overdose can be reversed for about 30-60 minutes with Narcan and 911 should always be called for more assistance, according to WWFD.
A meeting for adult community members on how to identify risky behaviors and warning signs in teenagers is set for College Place High School on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
According to event organizers, the meeting “Hidden in Plain Sight” will show how indicators of risky behaviors in teens can be easy for adults to miss and attendees will be able to walk through a mock teen bedroom and try to identify which items could indicate problem or risky behavior.
Local resources will also be available for family discussion at the meeting. Free childcare and food will also be available and translation services will be provided.
Additional treatment options for opioid use disorder are available through Blue Mountain Heart to Heart at 509-529-4744 or Ideal Option at 509-300-4735.
