YAKIMA, Wash. — After nearly five years of service to the city of Yakima, Police Chief Matthew Murray announced his retirement from the force.

On June 25, the Opportunities Industrialization Center of Washington held a retirement celebration honoring Murray’s legacy in the Yakima community. Multiple people showed up to the celebration, including police officers, firefighters, non-profit organizers and everyday citizens.

This celebration came approximately two months after the Yakima Police Department announced Murray’s retirement in a social media post on May 8.

The Opportunities Industrialization Center also presented Murray with a $5,000 check as a thanks for his leadership and kindness to the community.
