SEATTLE, Wash. – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced the expected salmon fishing opportunities for 2024-2025.

The fishing seasons were set Thu., April 11 after a week-long Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting in Seattle.

“These salmon fishing seasons were crafted carefully to ensure conservation goals are achieved for salmon populations, especially those listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA),” said WDFW Director Kelly Susewind. “We’ve worked carefully with treaty tribes to ensure there will be sustainable salmon fisheries and developed a fair number of fishing opportunities in Washington while protecting weaker salmon stocks.”

The Columbia River’s summer Chinook salmon fisheries are expected to have less retention opportunities than the year prior. Fishing is planned to be open on different segments of the river for different amounts of time, however all will start June 16:

June 16 to 19 from Astoria-Megler Bridge to Bonneville DamJune 16 to 30 from Bonneville Dam to Priest Rapids DamJune 16 to July 31 for waters downstream of Blue Bridge in Pasco

WDFW says that fall fisheries from Buoy 10 to the Blue Bridge are set to open Aug. 1 with different dates by area for Chinook and Coho.
