City of Yakima to repeal Community Integration Committee in City Council meeting

YAKIMA, Wash. – The City of Yakima is set to repeal its Community Integration Committee at its City Council meeting on Tue., March 5, according to an agenda statement.

The statement says the committee would no longer be an official committee of the City, meaning it would no longer be listed in the Yakima Municipal Code. However, members can still continue to meet and independently work on issues.

The Community Integration Committee will also still be able to hold meetings in the City Council Chambers and bring ideas and proposals to the City Council.

The committee became a part of the City of Yakima in Dec. 2017 with the purpose of advising the City Council on ways to improve community engagement, diversifying the city government, providing review of policies and ordinances and giving a voice to Yakima residents.

The committee held monthly public meetings and served in an advisory capacity to the City Council on community integration.

The repeal will be discussed at a bimonthly City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the City Hall Council Chambers in Yakima.
