PROSSER, Wash. – The City of Prosser released information in a press release regarding its insurance claim following a May 2021 commercial fire that damaged Prosser City Hall and Police Station.
The city’s insurance carrier made an estimate for repairs, estimating $4.5 million and later updating the amount to $4.76 million due to increased costs of materials.
So far, the city has been provided $2 million of the estimate which was used to purchase 5.97 acres of land on Wine Country Road for a new police station and city hall along with partial demolition and asbestos treatment of the police station.
$2.76 million still remains to be paid out to the city. The city plans to work with the insurance company to obtain the full amount.
The Prosser City Council continues to discuss the future of the police station and city hall at Regular City Council Meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
The discussions are open to the public and happen at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 1002 Dudley Avenue.
