WENATCHEE, Wash.-Is heading to the mountains to search for the perfect Christmas tree one of your holiday traditions?
Christmas tree permits are on sale now for cutting trees in National Forests, including the Okanogan-Wenatchee and Wallowa-Whitman.
Permits are $5 and are available for purchase online or through select retailers and each permit is good for one tree up to 15 feet tall.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, trees cannot be cut on private land, in wilderness areas or from existing tree plantations.
Cutting trees within 50 feet of the road or in old growth areas is also prohibited.
