MOUNT RAINIER.-Chinook and Cayuse Passes in Mount Rainier National Park are now closed for the season due to already heavy snowfall and avalanche danger.
SR 410 over Chinook Pass and SR 123 Cayuse Pass were both temporarily closed on Halloween by the Washington State Department of Transportation due to an expected 20 inches of snow.
According to WSDOT, the passes will now remain closed for the season between Crystal Mountain Boulevard about 12 miles northwest of the summit and Morse Creek about five miles east of the summit.
Travelers can check out current weather and highway condition on the WSDOT mountain passes webpage and through the WSDOT app.
