Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice could be ruled out for the rest of the NFL season after suffering a knee injury in the Super Bowl champions’ 17-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Rice went down after his quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw an interception and then inadvertently collided with the receiver while attempting a tackle.
Rice, a second-year receiver, was taken off on a cart with head coach Andy Reid saying the injury was “not good”.
Media reports said Rice had a suspected ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear and would undergo a scan on Monday, but there were fears he could miss the rest of the season.
Rice has been the main target for Mahomes this season with a team-high 24 catches.
“We’ll see what happens with Rashee. Hopefully we can get him back at some point this season,” said Mahomes.
“But if not, other guys step up. That’s what football is about. I think we’ve got a lot of good guys out there that can go out there and make plays,” he added.
The Chiefs have won all four matches so far this season.
