SPOKANE, Wash.-A federal judge dismissed a legal challenge to a Washington gun law requiring gun manufacturers and dealers to take reasonable steps to prevent guns from getting into the wrong hands.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation challenge to Senate Bill 5078, which would have prevented the new law from taking effect, was dismissed on March. 8 in U.S. District Court, according to a press release from the Attorney General’s Office.

“This law protects Washingtonians from gun violence by ensuring that gun industry members face real accountability when their irresponsible conduct harms our communities,” said Attorney General Bob Ferguson.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, under the new law, firearms manufacturers and sellers will face liability if they fail to enforce reasonable controls in the manufacture, sale, distribution and marketing of firearms.
