CDC issues extreme heat safety tips as heat waves roll in nationwide

MONTANA – One thing that’s top of mind for many this week is the weather with high temperatures across the U.S. leading to a rise in emergency room visits for heat related illnesses, according to the CDC.

People who exercise in extreme heat are at high risk, but experts say it’s possible to be active outside with care.

Remember, when you sweat, it depletes body’s electrolytes. Staying hydrated is key during, before and after you’re active and be aware of heat related illness red flags.

Muscle cramping may be an early sign. Feeling faint or weak means stopping all activity to get to a cool place.

The symptoms can be wide and varied. It can just be a little bit more fatigued with sluggish headaches, feeling some nauseousness or just feeling out of sorts.

Keeping these heat safety tips in mind will be especially important on the Fourth of July with family outings in Montana’s great outdoors.
