CBC seeking nominations for Martin Luther King Jr. Spirit Award

PASCO, Wash. – The Columbia Basin College (CBC) is open for nominations for its 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Spirit Award.

The award seeks to recognize a student, faculty, staff or a community member who reflects the spirit and philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

CBC says the recipient of the award must be a leader, be dedicated to the community and show generosity and spirit along with one or more of the following attributes:

Humanitarianism (Has given time and service freely and selflessly without desire to be recognized)Community-building (Has given time and service to build unity in the community and shown the ability to create safer communities)Cultural awareness (Has demonstrated appreciation for diversity and inclusion, following Dr. King Jr.’s visions)Economic opportunity (Seeks to improve quality of life for people in economically-challenged areas)

People who are interested in submitting a nomination are invited to send a letter explaining why the nominee should be considered to Dr. Luz Garza of the CBC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee at dei@columbiabasin.edu.

Letters can also be sent by mail to Dr. Luz Garza at 2600 North 20th Avenue, MS-A1, Pasco, WA, 99301.

Nominees must be residents of the Tri-Cities. The award will be presented during CBc’s annual MLK Bell-Ringing Celebration on Monday, January 16, 2024.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Thursday, December 15, 2023.
