RICHLAND, Wash.-A Carmichael Middle School teacher died unexpectedly from a heart attack earlier this week.
Rachel Halley taught math, served in leadership roles and coached at Carmichael, according to a letter sent to families from Principal Brian Stadelman.
“I have known Rachel Halley for almost 17 years, and she is one of the most dedicated educators I know,” Stadelman said in a statement to NonStop Local. “This has had a big impact on the entire Carmichael staff and student body. She will be missed by so many.”
Carmichael students are currently on winter break, however, the school and the Richland School District will have grief counselors available when students return to school on Jan. 2.
In his letter to parents Stadelman offers tips for parents and students to talk about difficult topics, such as death and provides links to resources and support.
