Brush fire in Benton County burns 101 acres, Owens Road reopened

BENTON COUNTY, Wash.- UPDATE: 6:45 p.m.

According to Benton County Fire District 1, Owens Road has been reopened to residents.

Officials ask that drivers continue to avoid the area as crews will remain on scene.

BCFD 1 reports the fire burned 101 acres in the unincorporated Highland area of Benton County.

With the assistance of Benton County Fire Dist. 4, Richland Fire and Emergency Services, Benton County Fire Dist. 6, Benton County Fire Protection Dist. 2, Kennewick Fire Department and Pasco Fire Department, crews were able to contain the fire by 3:59 p.m.

No injuries or property damage was reported.

Benton County Fire District 1 firefighters fully stopped the progression of a wildfire which started in the area of state Route 397 and Owens Road in Benton County.

Owens Road is still closed and officials are asking drivers and drones to stay out of the area.

BCFD 1 originally reported the brush-heavy fire to be around 3-5 acres and officials requested a wildland strike team.
