RICHLAND, Wash. – Richland High School Athletic Director Adrian Ochoa announced the school’s new head football coach to be Offensive Coordinator Josh Jelinek on Friday.

Jelinek was previously the team’s offensive coordinator for 11 of the last 14 seasons. He will be the school’s seventh head coach since 1946.

Jelinek was hired as the team’s offensive line coach in 2010, where the Bombers made it to the State Tournament for the first time in ten seasons. He was promoted to offensive coordinator the very next season.

As the team’s offensive coordinator, he would go on to coach nine of the top 15 scoring offenses in Richland football history and coach the top four passing quarterbacks in the program’s entire history.

Prior to coaching at RHS, Jelinek coached at his alma mater, Prosser High School, in 2007 and 2008. He helped the team win back-to-back CWAC championships and win the state championship in 2007.

Jelinek was an all-state lineman when playing at PHS, which he graduated from in 1998. He also played at the University of Idaho for five seasons and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Education from the university.

Along with coaching, Jelinek will continue teaching CTE classes and advise RHS’s FFA program.
