SALEM, Ore.-Registration is now open for a Bob Ross inspired virtual race to help plant trees in parks and forests in Oregon.

Oregon Parks Forever joined the Happy Little (Virtual) 5K that was started four years ago in honor of Bob Ross’ love of the outdoors.

“We are thrilled to partner with Bob Ross, Inc. and these other eight states on the Happy Little 5K concept as a way to honor the late Bob Ross and create a legacy event to plant trees,” said Seth Miller, Executive Director of Oregon Parks Forever.”

The event is run in eight states (Michigan, Oregon, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Wisconsin) to raise awareness and funding for state parks, according to an Oregon Parks Forever release on the run.

Participants in the 2024 Run for the Trees/Happy Little (Virtual) 5K can run, walk, hike, skate, paddle or roll to complete their 5K anywhere outdoors anytime between Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 28).

Registration is $36 and race proceeds will benefit tree planting and forest protection efforts in Oregon parks, including the planting of ten trees for each registration, according to OPF.

Those who wish to participate are encouraged to register by April. 1 to ensure they have their commemorative shirt in time for race day. Registration can be completed online through Run for the Trees: Happy Little (Virtual) 5K.

“It’s the perfect blend of everything Bob held dear; nature, taking care of the environment, and happy trees too of course,” said Joan Kowalski, President of Bob Ross Company. “He would have been so pleased to see how it’s getting so popular around the world.”
