The Red Cross set up an evacuation center at the Selah Civic Center for people affected by the Black Canyon fire, but no one came.

The evacuation center is now on standby. To get help, call 1-800-Red-Cross and ask for assistance for the Black Canyon Fire.

Red Cross workers told Non Stop Local that they projected around 10 to 15 people to show up.

Red Cross Workers said this isn’t the first time this year that no one showed up to an evacuation center.

According to Ryan Rodruck, Department of Natural Resources officer, the fire is currently up to 6,500 acres.

“At this point in the afternoon today, crews have made significant progress,” Rodruck said. “We have a large number of ground resources that are addressing the fire and a significant amount of air resources, including very large air tankers dropping retardant and helicopters and fixed-wing water scoopers.”

DNR says the cause of the fire is currently being investigated. According to Officer Rodruck there is still no time frame for the containment of the fire.
