TRI-CITIES, Wash. – Bissell recalled 3.2 million handheld steam cleaners after 183 customers reported injuries, with 157 being minor burns.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on Thu., July 18, stating that the Bissell Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners can “expel hot water or steam onto users while heating or during use, posing a burn hazard.”

The recall affects steam cleaners with under model series 39N7 and 2994, or any Bissell steam cleaner with “STEAM SHOT” or “POWER STEAMER” printed on its side.

CPSC says consumers should immediately stop using the recalled steam cleaners and contact Bissell for either $60 credit towards a Bissell purchase or $40 in cash for each steam cleaner.

The cleaners were reportedly sold at Target, Walmart and other department stores, on Bissell’s website, on Amazon, on HSN and more from August 2008 through May 2024. They sold for between $35 and $40, or $70 for a two-pack, according to the CPSC.
