Bicyclist in critical condition after being hit by truck in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. – A Yakima bicyclist was hospitalized on Tue., April 9 after being hit by a pickup truck, according to a press release from the Yakima Police Department.

YPD says officers were sent to the 800 block of South 16th Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. and found a 49-year-old female bicyclist seriously injured in the roadway.

An investigation found that a pickup truck traveling southbound hit the bicyclist while she was crossing South 16th Avenue near St Helens Street.

Medics transported the woman to a nearby hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. She was later transported to Harborview in Seattle in critical condition.

The 55-year-old man driving the truck stayed at the crash and cooperated with officers. He was reportedly booked into the Yakima County Jail for vehicular assault charges, including driving under the influence.
