BENTON COUNTY, Wash.-The Benton County Sheriff’s Office have responded to an increase in car thefts recently and are reminding residents of some simple steps to keep their vehicles safe.
With cold weather here for the season it’s tempting to warm your car up while you get ready, however, a running car is an easy target for thieves and should never be left unattended.
Running or not, to protect against car theft, items such as keys, phones, electronics and valuables should not be kept in your car and if in your car should be kept out of sight in the glovebox or trunk.
According to the BCSO, if your car is stolen it’s important to act quickly by notifying local law enforcement and providing as much detail about the car and its contents as possible.
