BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – A Benton County jury found a man guilty of strangling his grandson after a week-long trial that ended Monday.

James Christopher Forney, 47, is guilty of second degree assault of a child, fourth degree assault and third degree malicious mischief, each with a Notice of Domestic Violence Allegation and Enhancement.

On July 10, deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in which a woman reported that her father, Forney, had choked her son to the point of vomiting.

The woman had confronted Forney, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident, after her son came to her. Forney denied the allegation then pushed her to the ground and punched her in the face before she escaped and used a neighbor’s phone to call 911.

Forney is expected to see a standard range sentence of 77 to 102 months in prison.
