WEST RICHLAND, Wash.-Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 6-12 and Benton County Fire District 4 is running a “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you” campaign.

The goal of the campaign is to educate the community about the importance of working smoke alarms in the home, according to a BCFD4 press release.

The community is invited to an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Station 420 that will include tours, safety demonstrations and prizes.

“Smoke alarms can make a life-saving difference in a fire by giving people time to get out safely,” says Fire Chief Paul Carlyle. “But they need to be working properly in order to do their job.”

Members of Benton County Fire District 4 will also give fire safety demonstrations at local elementary schools during Fire Prevention Week.
