RICHLAND, Wash.— BANG! POW! BOOM! It’s National Comic Book Day.
For 126 years, comic books have been an easy way to tell quick and easy stories, originally starting as political statements.
Eventually, the entertainment of comics grew into what they are today.
Adventures Underground has a wide variety of comic books, ranging from Magna to the classics.
Tiffany Whitelatch the events coordinator with the bookstore. She tells me comics have been a big part of her life. Growing up with parents who were interested, eventually finding an interest of her own.
The store has a comic for everyone, beginners and experts. As someone who’s never read a comic before, the selection makes it easy to pick where to start.
Whitelatch suggests beginners think about a topic they like or a genre they like before buying their first one.
The bookstore offers a “pull list” which means whenever new comics are put on the shelves on Wednesday, customers on the list have the opportunity to get the first selection.
She tells me oftentimes, customers will request two comics of each. One typically to read and the other as a collectors comic.
However, oftentimes, people consider comics to be just a picture book rather than an actual book. Whitelatch says it’s a great way to get kids into reading. The colors, genres and easy reads help kids get into reading.
This National Comic Book Day, Adventures Underground in Richland is offering 10% off some of their comics. You can find the store at the Uptown, 1391 George Washington Way, Richland, WA 99354.
