ELLENSBURG, Wash.-A new art exhibition exploring LGBTQ+ Identity is set to open at Central Washington University.
The exhibit, entitled “Cyclical” created by CWU student Joshua P. Collins for his BFA Senior Exhibit, explores the cyclical nature of history, mythology, and identity in the contemporary age through psychological landscapes and abstracted self-portraiture, according to CWU.
A reception for Cyclical will be held on April 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Gallery 231, at Randall Hall on Dean Nicholson Blvd and the exhibit will be open from April 29 through May 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Cycles define the world we live in,” Collins said. “We are born, live our lives, then die, returning to the earth as a harvesting ground for new life.”
Collins grew up in Seattle and his art, which utilizes paint, drawing and text, is inspired by his own experiences as a Queer, Jewish man, and an interest in history stemming from Medieval Age Re-Enactment events he grew up attending with his family, according to a CWU press release on the exhibit.
Collins will graduate from CWU in June and plans to attend Montana State University to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Painting.
