American Red Cross opens shelter after wildfire prompts Level 3 (GO NOW) evacuations west of Yakima

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – UPDATE 6:55 p.m. Residents affected by LEVEL 3 (GO NOW) evacuations caused by the wildfire burning in the area of Hillman Road and Marble Road can find assistance at the evacuation center at Summit View Church of Christ.

The American Red Cross announced they would have food, cots and other urgent needs for anyone evacuated due to the fire burning on Hillman Road in West Valley.

The shelter opened at 6:30 p.m. at the Summit View Church of Christ at 100 N 72nd Ave, Yakima, WA 98908.

Level 3 (GO NOW) evacuations are in place in the area according to YVEM, which includes:

Rocky Top Road to Summitview RoadSummitview Road to Summitview Road ExtensionSummitview Road Extension to Mahre RoadArea between Rocky Top Road and Mahre Road

According to Pacific Power, 2,027 residents are without power in the Yakima area with 1,352 in the area of the fire. The cause for the outages near the fire is an emergency de-energization.

YVEM asks people to avoid the area so firefighters can mitigate. A NonStop Local reporter is on their way to the fire.
