WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – According to the Richland Police Department on behalf of the West Richland Police Department, there is an ‘active incident’ at William Wiley Elementary School.
Claire Venema from RPD says one adult was shot. Current status of the adult and whether or not they are involved with the school is unknown.
RPD requests the public to stay clear of the area around William Wiley and South Highlands Boulevard and that updates will come soon.
All schools in West Richland are reportedly on critical lockdown.
The suspect is reportedly still at large, according to Venema. No names will be released until the suspect is identified.
The Richland School District pushed out multiple statements via text:
“During dismissal today, there was a shooting at William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland. The perpetrator is still at large. Schools placed in critical lockdown. We will send updates.”
“We are currently in communication with the West Richland Police Department to create a plan to reunite students with their families as soon as possible. Your children’s safety is our top priority. Please stay tuned for information.”
“All West Richland school activities and events have been canceled. Practices and activities in schools located within the city of Richland have been moved indoors. More updates to come.”
“We have received a report that an adult was shot outside of William Wiley Elementary. Schools are still in lockdown. Updates will continue to come as we learn more.”
