WENATCHEE, Wash. – A student from AC Davis High School in Yakima won the 2024 Year of the Apple Art Contest, hosted by the Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF), according to a press release.

AC Davis junior Ivette Valencia Montes took home the $1,000 grand prize with her piece “Golden Days of Harvest” which she created with Prismacolor and pastel.

Montes surpassed 41 other art pieces that came from students at various high schools, including Wenatchee, Wapato, Kiona-Benton and Grandview.

Second place was awarded to sophomore Lucy Korzh from Eastmont High School for her acrylic paint piece “Grandma’s Kitchen” and third place went to sophomore Anna Hirsch from Wenatchee High School for her oil pastel piece “Generosity.” The two won $500 and $250 respectively.

“We at Corteva are not only proud to sponsor this event but also to publish the grand prize winner’s artwork, showcasing the intersection of art and agriculture,” said Dan Snipes from Corteva. “The art pieces that are submitted are fascinating and an excellent representation of our tree fruit industry.”

Each year, Corteva Agriscience creates a poster calendar using the grand prize winner’s artwork which is distributed to industry members across Central Washington. To receive a copy, contact the WAEF office at 509-663-7713.
