Four hour standoff at Yakima apartment complex ends with arrest

YAKIMA, Wash. – UPDATE 6:00 p.m.

Yakima Police have arrested a wanted man suspected of holding them at bay for about four hours at the Mesa Apartments.

According to police Lieutenant Chad Janis, the incident started around 1:42 p.m. when officers investigating a separate case located the man at the apartment complex.

While holed up inside an apartment, the man told officers that he was armed, Lt. Janis said.

At 5:30 p.m., Lt. Janis said the suspect was taken into custody.

Residents who were evacuated have been cleared to return to their apartments.

A wanted man is holding a Yakima Police SWAT team at bay at the Mesa Apartments in the 1700 block of Gordon Road, police said.

According to police Lieutenant Chad Janis, the suspect has barricaded himself inside one of the apartments and that negotiations are ongoing.

Janis said neighboring apartments have been evacuated and that people should avoid the area.
