KENNEWICK, Wash. – Officers with the Kennewick Police Department made use of a drone to chase down and arrest a wanted man on Wednesday.
KPD says an officer on patrol noticed a car driving unsafely in the area of 19th and Garfield Street. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver reportedly lied about his identity.
Police properly identified the man to be a 36-year-old with with warrants out for his arrest.
NonStop Local typically does not name suspects until they are formally charged.
Officers attempted to arrest the man but he ran away into a nearby backyard then hid in a car. Police chased and brought out a drone to give officers vision from the sky.
With use of the drone, KPD says officers were given multiple views of the location and were able to surround the man. He reportedly attempted to escape again but was eventually taken into custody.
The 36-year-old was booked into the Benton County Jail on his warrants, false reporting, resisting arrest and other charges.
