Kennewick Police have arrested a man accused of frightening a person outside Sportsman’s Warehouse with a gun.
Detectives said in a release that a caller reported the man was “mean mugging” them in the department store parking lot on Sunday, January 5, and displayed a firearm from his waistband.
Officers obtained a description of the suspect, located the vehicle he was driving and recovered firearms along with a magazine to a firearm that was stolen from Sportsman’s Warehouse, according to the release.
It was later determined that the firearm reportedly seen in the parking lot incident was a B-B gun, said police.
The suspect, 40, was booked into Benton County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, weapons capable of producing bodily harm (brandishing), Theft in the 3rd degree and driving on a suspended license.
Kennewick Police said they commend the actions of the caller for reporting the crime without trying to engage the suspect further.
