Richland School District provides update on reassignment of 145 paraeducators

RICHLAND, Wash.-The Richland School District has provided an update on the reassignment of paraeducators that happened on Dec. 17.

The reassignments that affected 145 of the RSD’s 431 paraeducators were based on seniority, according to the district, with 112 paraeducators remaining in their current school buildings, 24 moving to new schools and nine choosing to resign.

Shawna Dinh, the public information officer for the RSD provided NonStop Local with a statement on the paraeducator reassignments that read in part,

“We appreciate the dedication of our paraeducators during this process and will continue to provide support as they settle into their new roles.”

According to the RSD, of the 112 paraeducators that will remain at their current schools, 93 will remain in their current positions, while 11 chose to take special education positions in their buildings and 7 chose temporary positions in their building, while one paraeducator chose an ECEAP early learning position in their same building.

Of the 24 paraeducators moving to new buildings 11 chose special education positions, nine chose general education positions, three chose temporary positions and one chose an ECEAP early learning position.

Seven of the nine paraeducators who chose to resign will continue to substitute within the district.

According to the RSD, 15 paraeducators opted for the district’s separation incentive for early retirement or resignation.
